Going to my First Van Event
After a full year on the road, I am starting to feel ready to expand my community. Life on the road is amazing but it’s even better when you can share it with other people who are living a similar lifestyle.
While seeing a van friend over Thanksgiving, I found out about an Expo for called ‘Tiny Fest’ which is for people who are living or interested in living tiny (tiny homes, vans, RVs, skoolies, etc.). I decided I would go and try to make some more friends who also live small. It can be a bit isolating to have to constantly explain your lifestyle to other people who have never even considered the idea of living in a van.
The event was two days and featured spec container homes, van builders, and people showcasing their self converted rigs. The first day, I went to a couple of the talks and spoke to a couple of the builders but it was raining and I wasn’t really feeling it. I left feeling a bit defeated but decided to go back the next day and try again.
Day two was WAY better and being intentional about making friends can be difficult for anyone but I kept reminding myself people are at this to learn and meet like minded people. So I introduced myself to a lot of people and made a lot more connections than I did the day before. It was a way better experience and I am going to try to incorporate some more events like this into my 2023 travel plans.
