Camping with Friends

Big Water, Utah is the first place I camped with another person. I met a girl named Melody through a friend who sent me her handle on Instagram. We met almost a year prior on the internet - she also has a Ford Transit and travels full time.

I had messaged her every once in a while for about a year so I felt like I already knew her a bit. She messaged me and asked where I was in Utah and we made plans to meet up. This was my first time camping with another van and I was excited about it.

When Mel got there, it was like seeing an old friend. When people say you can’t make real friends online, it just is not true. We had a great campsite and both worked during the day so it worked out well. We camped and hung out during the morning and evening and during the work day spent most of our time working separately in our vans.

It was really nice to have someone to pop my head out of the van and say hello to during the day. One thing you don’t hear much about in the van world is how intentional you have to be with socializing. I hadn’t really seen anyone for a few weeks so getting to spend time with someone who was living a similar lifestyle was pretty nice! We cooked dinner a couple times together and she played with Marv which was good for all of us.
